Along with many other yachts he has sailed upon, he gained much of his experience aboard S/Y Sumurun – 94ft Fife. Sumurun is one of the finest classics, but to keep her so takes a lot of love, care and hard work, for eighteen months of his life that is what he gave her. He learned the fine arts of varnishing and attention to detail. She taught him that pride in one’s work is a massive advantage that can be beaten by few other personal attributes.
